Annoyances (Part 1)

Things that annoy me:
1. When people only repost other folks pics and graphics on FB/Instagram etc. If you don’t have any original thought of your own, any pictures from your own life or in fact any life of your own, then you probably shouldn’t post on FB.
2. No one cares about your kids as much as you do. I get that you love your children, but if every post on your social media page is about your kids, it’s time you either get a life outside of them, or at least consider that you come off as extremely boring to your online audience.
3. Folks that say they’re from Boston when they really mean they’re from a suburb outside of Boston. Unless you are FROM the following, then you are NOT from Boston: Allston/Brighton, Back Bay, Beacon Hill, Charlestown, Chinatown, Dorchester, East Boston, Hyde Park, JP, Roxbury, Mission Hill, Mattapan, North End, Roslindale, Southie, South End, West Roxbury
4. I don’t play the race card, but traveling outside of Boston and coming back to it, Boston is one of the most racially insensitive places ever. (And don’t say it isn’t when you aren’t a person that would be prone to be on the receiving end of it). Only here am I constantly referred to as the “black girl” (I have a name and don’t label me! I am biracial and I do get EXTREMELY offended when someone else takes it upon them self to racially categorize me), am asked who a certain rap artist is or who sings a certain hip hop song , who serves the best soul food, or why do black folks do such and such, or which public school did I attend, who “assisted” me in going to college, where are my roots from - “really” from (because obviously they must not be from Boston although my maternal roots date back here years before the families of those asking me ever thought of leaving Ireland, Italy or wherever). It’s also maddening when people here tend to automatically go into an “Ebonics” sort of speech when talking with me. Um?!?!?! And I won’t even get into comments made about my “Black people” hair, that the guys I date are rough necks (for no other reason than they are black) or subtle comments that I pretty much am responsible for bussing.
5. The phrase “No Offense But………” If whatever you are about to say may be offensive and you DON’T want to offend the person you are in conversation with, then DON’T say whatever it is that you would begin with “No offense but…..”
6. I detest when people ask me why aren’t I married because someone as fabulous as I should be. Sorry to disappoint you by wasting my fabulousness on being single. I’m not married because I’m not married. I don’t have any reasons to offer you when you ask why I am single and I honestly don’t need you to attempt to make me feel bad by telling me “Soon enough you’ll find Mr. Right!” (I didn’t know I was supposed to be on the hunt for him.)
7. No I don’t have kids. Yes I want them. No I won’t hurry up and pop them out so you can feel better knowing that I’m now a parent. Stay out of reproductive business.
8. I have many more things that annoy me but I’m annoyed that my self diagnosed ADD won’t allow me to finish writing them all right now. So to be cont……..
